Long Beach Days

I went to Long Beach this weekend to visit Mom and Dad's new cabin (and Mom and Dad). Oh yeah, Carissa and Chris and Bear were there as well. The weather was drizzly and overcast, but what do you expect, it's a beach in Washington?

Bear's new hobby is to ambush me anytime that I am close enough to the floor for him to do so. Since I slept on the futon he made a regular habit of this, particularly when let out to go potty in the middle of the night.

We celebrated Dad's birthday with a chocolate and strawberry cake from the Cottage Bakery. I decorated it artfully with candles:The Fire Brigade:

We then proceeded to the firepit to roast marshmallows and make smores. Chris took a special delight in branding the logs with our initials, with his engineer's precision. I started to write "Est. 2008", but got bored, so it says "Est". To be continued... The highlight of the evening was when I smeared very hot, very sticky marshmallow on my pants leg instead of the graham cracker and said a Very Bad Word. Very loudly.

The next day we hiked to North Head Lighthouse and Cape Disappointment Lighthouse. North Head:

Ladies and gentlemen, my sister.

On the way to Cape Disappointment we discovered this little bay/inlet thing that is sheltered and perfect for letting dogs run off leash. It's a steep hike down, but once he got there, Bear LOVED it.

All in all, a good time was had by all. Especially those of the 4-legged variety.

I'm glad you got to come to LB to check it out. There are sooo many cool places to take the dogs you'll never be home.

Your lighthouse picture is eggsellent!
